Resum
High entropy alloys are known for their excellent mechanical properties, as well as their resistance to wear and corrosion, coupled with notable thermal stability. These characteristics make them an object of current study, due to the revolutionary impact they could have in various industrial sectors, such as aerospace, automotive, electronics and chemicals, among others.
One way to use these alloys is through coatings, using thermal spray techniques. The main objective of these processes is to protect metal substrates to increase their durability and save costs, whether economic or energetic. For this purpose, there are currently various thermal spray techniques available and multiple methods to obtain the necessary powders to carry out these processes.
This work focuses on the study of FeCrCoMnNi coatings, a high-entropy alloy widely researched. Two thermal spray techniques have been used, Cold Gas Spray (CGS) and High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF), both known for providing excellent results. The starting material was powder synthesized through High Energy Ball Milling (HEBM). This is a method that can be easily scaled and allows for competitive manufacturing of large quantities, although it may produce characteristics that are inferior compared to other methods.
The thermal spray processes have been optimized, and the starting powders have been characterized, which involved studying the particle size distribution, morphology, and microstructure. Subsequently, the coatings were analysed, characterizing their microstructure using SEM, EDS, and XRD, and the hardness, porosity, and thickness values of both coatings were also measured.
