[cat] El segle XVIII a Catalunya és un període de canvis polítics traumàtics, però el país experimenta també transformacions socials i econòmiques que l'impulsen cap a la modernitat, amb un gran paper de promoció i transmissió de nou coneixement de les acadèmies científiques. En el context de creixement demogràfic i industrialització, neix en els metges una preocupació per les condicions ambientals i de salut pública, per la qual cosa endegaran observacions meteorològiques sistemàtiques que s'estendran durant decennis fins a connectar amb les primeres observacions oficials de finals del segle XIX.
[eng] The 18th Century in Catalonia is a period of strong political changes, but the country also experiences social and economic transformations that will drive it to modernity, with a very important role of scientific academies in the task of promoting and transmitting new knowledge. In the context of demographic growth and industrialization, doctors developed a new concern for environmental conditions and public health. That is why they started initiatives for systematic meteorological observations that lasted for decades until connecting with first official observations at the end of 19th Century.
