Resum
(eng) The first section consists of an introductory debate between the liberal and republican conceptions of liberty, namely between conceptualizing liberty as “absence of interferences” or as “absence of domination”. After that I will study the relationship regarding freedom and law in each tradition. The social theory that lies beneath each tradition will also be analyzed, focusing on the sociological substantivism that historical republicanism provides to Political Philosophy. The second section contextualizes this debate, making a republican defense of freedom of speech; which means taking advantage of the republicanism's sociologically informed character. This does not only explain why we should defend freedom of speech, but also what social elements should be taken into account when doing so.
