Abstract
[ca] Els gegants són una part destacada del nostre patrimoni festiu, amb una trajectòria històrica i social significativa que han esdevingut a cada població tot un símbol de les seves celebracions. Algunes d'aquestes figures tenen més de cent anys i han estat declarades béns culturals pel seu valor històric excepcional. Es pretén fer una recopilació d’informació sobre els gegants històrics del país, localitzant-los i fent incís en els seus materials de creació. Com que la restauració del patrimoni requereix un coneixement especialitzat per preservar la seva autenticitat i valor cultural, també ens atansarem breument al problema de l'intrusisme dins el sector professional. L’estudi de cas es manté en curs i cada vegada més a prop del misteri sobre l’origen dels gegants
del Barri d’Avall, de Montbrió del Camp, i l’arribada a la població durant la segona meitat del s. XIX. També ha destacat la importància de la investigació, la restauració i la conservació per tal de preservar la seva autenticitat. No cal dir que explorar aquesta parella de gegants ha estat un viatge fascinant a través de la història, la tècnica artesanal i la identitat cultural de la població que els ha conservat.
[eng] The giants are an important part of our festive heritage. With a significant historical and social trajectory, they have become a symbol of each towns' celebrations. Some of these figures are over a hundred years old and have been recognized as cultural heritage due to their exceptional historical value. It is intended to compile information about the historical giants of the country, locating them and focusing on their creation materials. As heritage restoration requires specialized knowledge to preserve its authenticity and cultural value, we will also briefly address the problem of intrusion within the professional sector. The case study remains ongoing and is increasingly closer to the mystery of the origin of the giants of the Barri d'Avall, in Montbrió del Camp, and the arrival of the population during the second half of the nineteenth century. It has also stressed the importance of research, restoration and conservation in order to preserve their authenticity. Needless to say, exploring this pair of giants has been a fascinating journey through the history, craft technique and cultural identity of the population that has preserved them.
