[spa] Este trabajo muestra que el comercio del período tardoarcaico presenta en la Cataluña sudpirenaica unas caracterIsticas específicas, con un notable predominio de la emporia por encima del comercio orientado desde las zonas de producción y un protagonismo destacado de los mercaderes foceos. Se mantiene asimismo que esta actividad comercial tuvo un papel destacado en Ia formación y consolidación de las elites ibéricas y en Ia integración de este territorio dentro de un amp1io sistema mundial.
[eng] This paper demonstrates that trade during the late archaic period in Catalonia south of the Pyrenees had specific characteristics, with a notable predominance of the emporia over trade orientated from the centres of production, and a marked prominence of Phocean merchants. We maintain therefore that this trading activity played a major role in the formation and consolidation of the Iberian elite and the integration of this territory into an extensive world system.
