Abstract
This paper is an up to date view of severa1 biologi- cal aspects of prehistoric and historic populations from Catalonia unti1 the Middle Ages. These popula- tions were basically composed of Mediterranean stock which predominates in the Iberian Peninsula at least from the Neolithic period and into which some other racial elements were occasionally incorporated over the centuries. Some interesting demographic as- pects have been discussed as well as the first results of the new methods to determine the diet which are cur- rently being carried out on the human remains. The new perspectives that this and other studies will soon have on paleoecological reconstruction have also been considered.
