Resum
[eng] Life expectancy in Spain has increased over the years due to changes in the mortality pattern. Currently this is one of the longest-lived populations in the world, with 80,2 and 85,6 years of future life for a man and a woman born in 2017, respectively. This paper presents a study of mortality in the Spanish population taking into account different variables and study tools. Some period indicators are calculated to describe the behavior of mortality by age and by sex. The standardization methodology is applied to eliminate the effect of the age structure and to be able to compare mortality between regions. Life tables are constructed to obtain and compare life expectancy at different ages and by sex. The main causes of death (diseases of the circulatory system, tumors and diseases of the respiratory system) and their behavior according to the Autonomous Community are analyzed. Besides, the impact of their premature mortality on life expectancy is measured with the potential years of life lost. Finally, the variable level of education through the data available in different Spanish statistical sources is taken into account. Life tables are constructed for low, medium and high level in order to show whether the educational improvement is related to a longer life.
