Resum

Historically, the earliest settlements in the area date back to the 12th century, with agriculture and livestock as the primary economic activities. In the 18th century, a notable transformation of the landscape occurred, characterized by the drainage of marshlands and the subsequent alteration of the delta's original environment. The introduction of advanced water management techniques, including the construction of irrigation canals and the availability of artesian water sources, played a pivotal role in the development of highly productive irrigated farms in the latter part of the 19th century.
