De diuersis artibus de Teòfil: Edició, traducció al català i comentari

Abstract

[cat] De diuersis artibus o Schedula diuersarum artium de Teòfil és una de les obres sobre art i artesania més importants de l'Edat Mitjana. És un tractat medieval dividit en tres llibres que s'ocupen, respectivament, de pintura, vitralleria i orfebreria. El treball que presentem consta de diferents parts: en primer lloc, oferim un estudi preliminar on exposem les teories que s'han formulat recentment pel que fa a l'autoria, la datació i el títol de l'obra i hi incloem un estudi sobre les principals fonts de la tecnologia artística medieval. Hi incorporem un apartat dedicat a la transmissió manuscrita del tractat on recollim el llistat actualitzat de tots els manuscrits que contenen el De diuersis artibus i aportem una relació de totes les edicions i traduccions que s'han publicat fins al moment. Dediquem també un capítol a exposar els criteris que hem seguit per a l'establiment del text llatí i per a l'elaboració de la traducció catalana. En segon lloc, oferim una nova versió del text de De diuersis artibus. Prenent com a base l'edició de Dodwell, aportem noves variants i esmenes significatives, a les quals hem pogut arribar gràcies a haver-nos capbussat profundament en el text i en la seva interpretació. Aquest treball conté també la primera traducció al català d'aquest tractat medieval. La iniciativa de traduir aquesta obra fou motivada per l'interès que aquesta pot suscitar en un territori on l'art romànic destaca per la seva quantitat, qualitat i bon estat de conservació. En tercer lloc, presentem un extens comentari de l'obra, en el qual examinem i contextualitzem les tècniques i l'art que s'hi descriu. Finalment, hem completat el nostre estudi amb un ampli annex d'imatges per exemplificar les eines, tècniques i obres d'art que es descriuen en el De diuersis artibus de Teòfil.

[eng] De diuersis artibus o Schedula diuersarum artium written by the monk Theophilus is one of the most important medieval works about art techniques. This medieval treatise is divided into three books, which deal with paint, glass and metalwork, respectively. The present work consists of several parts: first, it provides a preliminary study on the most recent theories regarding authorship, dating and title of the work. It also includes a study about the main sources of medieval art technology. In addition, there is a section dealing with the manuscript tradition of this treatise and a list of all the editions and translations that have hitherto been published. There is another chapter where we explain the criteria followed for the Latin text's edition and for the Catalan translation. Secondly, we offer a new edition of the De diuersis artibus. Based on Dodwell's edition, we provide new variants and meaningful corrections. This work also contains the first Catalan translation of this treatise. Thirdly, we present an extensive study of the work, in which we contextualize and examine the art techniques that are described. Finally, we have completed our study with a large annex of images to illustrate the tools, techniques and pieces of art that are described in De diuersis artibus of Theophilus.
