Abstract

[cat] El present assaig es proposa estudiar quina mena de flânerie i de flâneuserie apareixen i són performades a la novel·la Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1958), de Truman Capote. Partint de la hipòtesi que la flânerie és una activitat que, passat el seu moment d’esplendor, continua viva en el temps, transformant-se segons el moment i l’espai, l’anàlisi d’aquesta novel·la a la llum dels pressupòsits teòrics clàssics i contemporanis sobre la flânerie ens permet postular l’existència d’una flânerie diferent, que anomenarem tardoflânerie. Aquest estudi també planteja llegir Holly Golightly, la protagonista de la novel·la, com una flâneuse; en la distinció entre flânerie i flâneuserie s’obren múltiples tensions que l’obra també tematitza, en contrast amb l’altre protagonista, el narrador, un altre possible flâneur. Per últim, la indagació en la forma i la construcció de personatges a Breakfast at Tiffany’s ens permet agrupar tant forma com fons sota el paraigua de l’estètica de la lleugeresa, la transitorietat i la visualitat, elements clau de l’activitat dels passejants i les passejants.

[eng] The following essay proposes to study what kind of flânerie and flâneuserie appear and are performed in the novel Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1958), by Truman Capote. By stating as a hypothesis that flânerie is an activity that continues living and happening as time goes by, even once its moment of glory is over, and that it transforms depending on the moment and place, the analysis of this novel in light of classic and contemporary theoretical assumptions about flânerie allows us to postulate the existence of a different kind of flânerie, which we will call tardoflânerie. This study also suggests reading Holly Golightly, the main character of the novel, as a flâneuse; due to the distinction between flânerie and flâneuserie, several tensions are out on display and thematized in the novel, in contrast with the other main character, the narrator, another possible flâneur. Lastly, our inquiry in the formal aspects and the character construction in Breakfast at Tiffany’s allows us to assemble form and content under the umbrella of the aesthetics of lightness, transience and visuality, key elements of the strollers’ activity.
