El naixement de la Teoria de la Informació: anàlisi i formalització d’A Mathematical Theory of Communication

Abstract

[en] This work analyzes the historical context and the material factors that led Claude Shannon to write A Mathematical Theory of Communication and to lay the foundations of Information Theory. The part of the work devoted to discrete information communication is studied, and the influence of the context on the rigor of the theory is assessed. Subsequently, the direct part of two of Shannon’s main results—the source coding theorem and the channel coding theorem—is formalized.

[ca] Aquest treball analitza el context històric i els elements materials que van conduir Claude Shannon a escriure A Mathematical Theory of Communication i a establir les bases de la Teoria de la Informació. S’estudia la part de l’obra dedicada a la comunicació d’informació discreta i es valora com el context històric afecta la seva rigorositat. Posteriorment, es formalitza la versió directa de dos dels seus principals resultats: el teorema de codificació de la font i el teorema de codificació del canal.
