Upon hearing a speaker disclose potential conflicts of interest years ago at Digestive Disease Week, an eminent American leader in gastroenterology whispered to one of us: “These disclosures are nonsense. Our main conflict of interest is that we all do colonoscopy.” American gastroenterologists usually avoid discussing this uncomfortable truth. The delivery of high-quality colonoscopy is a source of professional pride for us. Colonoscopy is the final common pathway of all colorectal cancer (CRC) screening strategies, preventing CRC through polypectomy.
