El presente trabajo indaga en el contexto cotidiano y en las prácticas rituales desarrolladas por cierto tipo de agrupaciones de danza -llamadas Bailes Religiosos- que residen en la comuna de Calama, Provincia de El Loa, Región de Antofagasta, Chile. Se propone una interpretación holística de este difundido fenómeno sociocultural, destacando la relevancia que tienen sus aspectos corporales y performativos. El trabajo plantea, por una parte, que la ritualidad y las danzas promesantes serían comprensibles como ritos de ofrenda y sacrificio. La singularidad del denominado “fenómeno promesante” radicaría en que la ofrenda estaría configurada a partir del propio cuerpo entregado a una relación directa con la imagen venerada; relación a la cual se accede mediante el agotamiento físico y la exigencia ritual del cuerpo. Por otra parte, se sostiene que las danzas promesantes no solo se sitúan como reflejos de las identidades socioculturales, sino que también serían mecanismos a través de los cuales se configuran las identidades colectivas. Es así como se destacan las relaciones existentes entre determinadas disposiciones corporales y la elaboración de categorías socioculturales que alimentan las definiciones identitarias.
[eng] This thesis explores the everyday context and ritual practices developed by certain types of groups, called “Bailes Religiosos”, residing in Calama, El Loa Province, Antofagasta Region, Chile. Through a holistic interpretation of this widespread sociocultural phenomenon, it is proposed the relevance of the corporality and performativity aspects. The work argues, in the first place, that the rituals and “promesante” dances would be understood as rites of offering and sacrifice. The singularity of this phenomenon would be that the offering it is configured from the body, which is delivered to a direct relationship with the venerated religious image; relationship which is accessed through a physical and ritual exhaustion of the body. From the other hand, it is argued that “promesante” dances are not only positioned as reflections of sociocultural identities, but also would be mechanisms through which collective identities are configured. Thus, this work highlights the relationships between certain bodily dispositions and development of socio-cultural categories that feed the identity definitions.
