[spa] Un estudio sistemático de los fenómenos astronómicos en la sociedad maya durante
el Periodo Clásico, así como los análisis de una amplia muestra de datos ha permitido observar la
existencia de los alineamientos de los edificios monumentales, principalmente hacia las salidas y
puestas del Sol en ciertas fechas de importancia calendárica. Lo que sugiere a su vez el uso de
calendarios observacionales con la finalidad de programar las actividades cívicas y rituales de la
comunidad. El estudio de esta investigación concluye que el uso de las orientaciones astronómicas
legitimó la autoridad de la elite gobernante.
[eng] A systematic study of the astronomical phenomena in Mayan society during the Classic Period, as well as the analysis of a wide sample of data has allowed to observe the existence of the alignments of the monumental buildings, were oriented predominantly to sunrise and sunsets on certain dates with calendrical importance. This in turn suggests the use of observational calendars for the purpose of scheduling civic and ritual activities in the community. The study of this research has led to the conclusion that the use of the astronomical orientations legitimized the authority of the rulers.
