DEL RETRAT PICTÒRIC A LA PANTALLA: MODELS VISUALS DEL SEGLE XIX EN LA REPRESENTACIÓ CINEMATOGRÀFICA DE LA DONA

Abstract

[cat L’objectiu principal d’aquest estudi és analitzar com els retrats pictòrics, especialment els femenins, i la pintura de gènere de finals del XIX i inicis del XX es projecten al cinema històric. Es plantegen qüestions sobre si les pintures d’aquell moment mostraven la realitat o una versió idealitzada, i en conseqüència si el cinema ho reflecteix fidelment. En un primer apartat, la metodologia a seguir serà estudiar la representació femenina en pintura; analitzar el paper de la moda com a signe històric i social; explorar les connexions entre cinema i literatura; observar la influència dels pintors -com John Singer Sargent, James Tissot o el grup dels Macchiaioli- a l’estètica cinematogràfica, i finalment fer un recorregut per una selecció de films anomenats d’època: des de 1930 fins al 2000. En el segon apartat, s’analitzaran quatre casos d’estudi concrets: Senso (Luchino Visconti, 1954), La edad de la inocencia (The Age of Innocence, Martin Scorsese, 1993), Retrato de una dama (The Portrait of a Lady, Jane Campion, 1996), i per acabar La copa dorada (The Golden Bowl, James Ivory, 2000). En definitiva, s’analitza com el cinema contemporani reinterpreta les imatges del passat, especialment els codis del retrat pictòric, per reconstruir la representació històrica de la dona.

[eng]The main objective of this study is to analyze how pictorial portraits, especially female portraits, and genre painting from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are projected in historical cinema. It raises questions about whether the paintings of that period depicted reality or an idealized version of it and, consequently, whether cinema reflects it faithfully. In a first section, the methodology will consist of studying the representation of women in painting; analyzing the role of fashion as a historical and social sign; exploring the connections between cinema and literature; observing the influence of painters -such as John Singer Sargent, James Tissot or the Macchiaioli group- on cinematic aesthetics, and finally, reviewing a selection of period films from 1930 to 2000. In the second section, four specific case studies will be analyzed: Senso (Luchino Visconti, 1954), The Age of Innocence (Martin Scorsese, 1993), The Portrait of a Lady (Jane Campion, 1996) and finally, The Golden Bowl (James Ivory, 2000). Ultimately, the study examines how contemporary cinema reinterprets images of the past, especially the codes of pictorial portraiture, in order to reconstruct the historical representation of women.
