Jack l’Esbudellador: ficcions d’una ficció

[cat] El següent assaig es planteja un recorregut, dels molts possibles, al voltant de la figura de Jack l'Esbudellador. Entenent la ficció com un mètode alternatiu de coneixement, instal·lat en la possibilitat, ens qüestionem quin paper ha jugat aquesta, tant en les obres literàries, cinematogràfiques i musicals, com en els estudis historiogràfics d’aquest cas irresolt. Ens preguntem, per tant, la necessitat humana de relatar aquests esdeveniments, i de participar, com a lectors, en la confecció d’un correlat particular, concretant la figura anònima de l’assassí en un home del sac definit. En relació amb aquest procés, també considerarem diverses aspectes estètics de les ficcions resultants, en perpètua tensió entre la concreció històrica, i l’abstracció mítica. En última instància, l’Esbudellador, com a text porós a emplenar, esdevé una màscara rere la qual projectar els mals endèmics de cada temps, i poder-los anomenar.

[eng] The next essay is a journey, among many possible, around the figure of Jack the Ripper. Understanding fiction as an alternative method of knowledge, installed in the possibility, we wonder what role it has played, both in literary, film and musical works, and in the historical studies of this unsolved case. We ask ourselves, therefore, the human need to recount these events, and to participate, as readers, in the making of a particular correlate, concretizing the anonymous figure of the murderer in a bogeyman of a definite nature. Within this process, we shall also examine various aesthetic aspects of the resulting fictions, in a perpetual tension between historical concretion and mythical abstraction. In the end, the Ripper, as a porous text to fill, becomes a mask from which to project the endemic fears of every age, and to be able to name them.
