[cat] L’objectiu d’aquest treball és identificar les diferents pràctiques funeràries dutes a terme a Islàndia pre i post conversió. Islàndia fou descoberta i colonitzada al finals del segle IX en una de les últimes expansions del període víking. La història islandesa sorprèn per l’acceptació total, immediata i pacifica del cristianisme mitjançant una assemblea general l’any 1000. A través del estudi de la materialitat dels cementiris pagans i cristians s’ha volgut analitzar com va ser gestionat el procés de canvi i quines conseqüències va tenir en la societat. A més s’ha volgut reflexionar sobre aspectes com les identitats de la comunitat, l’organització social i el traspàs de creences.
[eng] The aim of this paper is to identify the Icelandic burial customs during the Conversion Period. Iceland was settled by Norsemen at the end of the 9th century and its quick and homogeneous conversion to Christianity on the general Assembly in the year 1000 is something that has intrigued many scholars. We want to analyze this transformation through the study of the pagan and early Christian burials and think about aspects like collective identity, social administration and religion changes.
