Abstract
[eng] During the 16th and 17th centuries, Muslim pirates and corsairs attacked the Mediterranean coasts of the Hispanic Monarchy. Against this danger, different responses were articulated, among which the fortification of the coast. In Catalonia the construction of the defense system had an eminently local character, and many of its remains had arrived to our days. These two reasons make it possible to carry out an archaeological study in order to understand the impact of this phenomenon on its consequences in a given city: Cambrils. To do that, it combines two studies. The first one consists in documenting and archaeologically characterizing the structures that were involved in the defense of Cambrils in the 16th and 17th centuries. The second one consists on the realization of visibility analysis –viewshed and intervisibility– through Geographic Information Systems, which allows us to study aspects such as the territorial control and the communication system.
