[spa] La fabricación y reparación de herramientas y otras categorías de objetos en hierro era una actividad fundamental en la economía y la vida cotidiana de las poblaciones rurales de Hispania. La arqueología muestra que esta actividad se implementó de formas diversas, que no responden únicamente a la pretensión de autosuficiencia. Esta diversidad, que supone una organización particular de la cadena productiva, de la mano de obra (con niveles de especialización diferentes) y del tiempo, se adecuaba a las necesidades generadas por las estructuras socioeconómicas de cada territorio. El análisis de las formas que adoptaba la siderurgia rural, por tanto, permite profundizar en dinámicas más complejas a diversas escalas (local, regional e incluso provincial) y en las relaciones que la ciudad y su territorio en su doble condición de fuente de recursos naturales y de espacio de producción y consumo.
[eng] The manufacture and repair of tools and other categories of iron objects was a fundamental activity in the economy and daily life of the rural populations of Hispania. Archaeology shows that this activity was implemented in a variety of ways, which did not respond solely to the claim of self sufficiency. This diversity, which implies a particular organisation of the production chain, of the workforce (with different levels of specialisation) and of work rhythms, was adapted to the needs generated by the socio-economic structures of each territory. The analysis of the forms adopted by the rural iron and steel industry, therefore, allows us to delve deeper into more complex dynamics at different scales (local, regional and even provincial) and into the relations between the city and its territory in its double condition as a source of natural resources and a space for production and consumption.
