Teoria de subhastes: aplicació a Ebay i Google

Abstract

[eng] This Bachelor’s Thesis offers a comprehensive mathematical analysis of auction theory, focusing on the strategic behavior of bidders and the efficiency of different allocation mechanisms. The study begins by formalizing the most relevant auction formats, specifically first- and second-price sealed-bid auctions. Using tools from game theory and probability calculus, the optimal bidding functions as well as the existence of Nash equilibria for these models are derived and proven. This theoretical framework is initially applied to the digital environment of eBay, analyzing its auction system.

Furthermore, the research extends to the analysis of multi-object auctions, with a special focus on the Vickrey mechanism, which is considered the foundation of these structures due to its economic efficiency. Finally, the generalized second-price auction algorithms implemented by Google for keyword positioning are analyzed.

[cat] Aquest Treball de Final de Grau ofereix una anàlisi matemàtica exhaustiva de la teoria de subhastes, centrant-se en el comportament estratègic dels licitadors i en l’eficiència dels diferents mecanismes d’assignació. L’estudi comença amb la formalització dels formats de subhasta més rellevants, específicament les de sobre tancat de primer i segon preu. Mitjançant eines de la teoria de jocs i el càlcul de probabilitats, es dedueixen i es demostren les funcions de licitació òptimes, així com l’existència d’equilibris de Nash per a aquests models. Aquest marc teòric s’aplica inicialment a l’entorn digital d’eBay, analitzant el seu sistema de subhasta.

Així mateix, la recerca s’estén a l’anàlisi de subhastes de múltiples objectes, amb un focus especial en el mecanisme de Vickrey, considerat el fonament d’aquestes estructures a causa de la seva eficiència econòmica. Finalment, s’analitzen els algoritmes de subhasta de segon preu generalitzada implementats a Google per al posicionament de paraules clau.
