Teoría de la fantasía heroica

[spa] Con los nombres de “fantasía” y “maravilloso”, el panorama académico español recoge las tradiciones teóricas sobre la fantasy y le merveilleux dirigidas a un objeto de estudio en ciertos puntos concomitante, en ciertos puntos divergente. El presente trabajo pretende desentrañar tanto la naturaleza de los objetos a los que se alude desde ambas tradiciones como construir un marco teórico desde el que explicar tal naturaleza. Con este fin, empleando el esquema de la triple mímesis de Paul Ricoeur según la hermenéutica fenomenológica de Mario Valdés, este trabajo ahonda en las raíces del género de la “fantasía heroica” para comprender su estructura profunda y articular una definición operativa que explique la prefiguración de la tradición a la que los autores del género se acogen a la hora de configurar sus textos. A partir de ello se elabora una exposición de los principales aspectos configurativos del género, que dependen a su vez de una revisión de los supuestos poéticos para encararla hacia una propuesta de refiguración adecuada para la especificidad de los textos que participan de este género. De todo ello se derivan conceptos que el autor sugerirá como útiles para ulteriores investigaciones en el campo de los géneros literarios, particularmente en lo que concierne a la presencia de un elemento comúnmente entendido como “sobrenatural” en la configuración de un relato.

[eng] Fantasy, as a category of literature, has proved to be an extremely difficult object to pin down, as we see in authors as Kathryn Hume, Brian Attebery, Farah Mendlesohn, and John Clute. Furthermore, French and other language theoreticians tend to refer to it as “the marvelous”, term with which specialists are well acquainted, and which has entered the English discussion from Tzvetan Todorov’s classic study through authors as Rosemary Jackson or Christine Brooke-Rose. This dissertation aims to find a suitable theoretical framework for schools with the aid of the powerful tools given by theory of literature. Thus, this thesis works with Jean-Marie Schaeffer’s concepts for genre study and with Paul Ricoeur’s “triple mimesis” scheme, as described by Mario Valdés. First, this work delves into the “heroic fantasy” (sometimes called “epic fantasy”) genre taproots to understand its deep structure, which in turn enables the author to compose a description of the conventions that shaped the birth and development of the genre. That is, the prefiguration. Then, an analysis of the configuration procedures in the genre’s texts is provided, using examples from Spanish authors. An understanding of these texts is suggested, rejecting the traditional and imprecise “mimesis” point of view, giving in turn a poetics for refiguration from the perspective of myth as a fictional narrative model, which can be extended to its secular counterpart, the romance, as Northrop Frye called it. As a result, there will be suggested some concepts which the author deems useful for further investigations in the field of literary genres, specially when the presence of the “impossible” or “supernatural” is involved.
