[cat] Aquest article es dedica a contemplar la necessitat de tornar a parlar i reflexionar sobre el gènere de “teatre polític” i les seves delimitacions, implicacions i limitacions en l’àmbit britànic avui dia. Per tal d’apropar-nos a aquest fenomen ens dedicarem a analitzar dialècticament el “teatre de la catàstrofe” de Howard Barker i la seva connexió conceptual i formal amb el discurs ideològic neoliberal; alhora que hi contraposarem la figura de Bertolt Brecht –un contrapunt tant estètic com teòric. A més a més, mostrarem com l’obra de Barker es pot considerar un referent en la polèmica actual que problematitza si és més pertinent i eficaç parlar d’un teatre polític que renuncia a tot discurs polític, o si encara és possible reconèixer en Brecht un referent i pensar el teatre polític com un possible espai per a un gènere que pugui ser desacomplexadament polític i d’esquerres.
[eng] This paper will consider the need to reiterate and rethink the classificatory label of "political theatre" and its delimitations, implications and limitations in the current British cultural sphere. In order to explore this phenomenon, we will analyse dialectically Howard Barker's "Theatre of Catastrophe" and its conceptual and formal connection with the ideological neoliberal discourse; in the meantime we will contrast it to the theatrical theory and work of Bertolt Brecht –as an aesthetic and theoretical counterpoint. In addition to that, we will demonstrate how Barker's work can be considered a landmark to a current controversy that problematizes if it is more pertinent and efficient a political theatre that renounces any political discourse altogether, or whether if it is still possible to contemplate Brecht as a touchstone and to consider political theatre as a possible space for an openly political and left-wing genre.
