[cat[ Aquest treball estudia la literatura de viatges renaixentista, centrant-se en la producció a l’espai
ibèric i italià al voltant dels segles XVI i XVII. Mitjançant una àmplia selecció bibliogràfica i
posant en relació les investigacions dels especialistes amb cinc obres consultades a la Biblioteca de
Fons Antic de la Universitat de Barcelona, es reivindica la possibilitat d’emprar aquest tipus de
textos com a fonts històriques. Malgrat reflectir la gran varietat d’autors, estils, àmbits territorials
descrits i qüestions tractades en els relats de viatges del període, s’esbossa una tipologia en base a
l’autoria, les convencions literàries i el públic d’aquest tipus d’obres. A més, es mostra la
interpretació que s’hi fa de territoris poc coneguts, com la Xina, i d’aquells fins llavors
completament desconeguts a Europa, com Amèrica. Entre altres aspectes, s’emfatitza la influència
de la literatura de viatges sobre el conjunt de la cultura europea, l’existència d’una xarxa d’edició i
distribució d’aquests textos a escala continental i la complexa relació de les diverses obres amb
l’herència de l’antiguitat clàssica i el contingut de les Escriptures.
[eng] This work studies Renaissance travel writing, focusing on production in Iberia and Italy around the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Through a wide bibliographical selection and linking specialists’ findings with five works consulted at the Biblioteca de Fons Antic of the University of Barcelona, the possibility of using these texts as historical sources is defended. Despite presenting the great diversity of authors, styles, regions described and aspects discussed in travel narratives of the period, a tipology of these works based on authorship, literary conventions and readership is attempted. Further, we show the interpretation made of unfamiliar territories, such as China, as well as that of those completely unknown to Europeans up to that point, like America. Among other aspects, we insist on the influence of travel writing on the whole of European culture, the existence of a continental network dedicated to editing and distributing these texts and the complex relationship of the studied works with the inheritance of classical antiquity and the content of Scripture.
