Abstract

“Mones de Ciencia” is a project that combines science and gastronomy to promote knowledge of Earth Sciences. Inspired by the Catalan tradition of Easter treats called “monas”, this project created a chocolate figure representing Mia, a young female geologist surrounded by giant crystals that evoke iconic places like the Naica caves and the Pulpí geode. The chocolate figure is the starting point of the project that extends to a digital platform where essential topics such as climate change, mineral and energy resources, and geological risk mitigation are addressed. Through simple illustrations and explanations, complex geological knowledge is made accessible, offering an educational and entertaining tool for all audiences, but especially children. The success of its first edition, with over 2,100 visits to the website during Easter, demonstrates the project’s impact, using chocolate “monas” as a vehicle to promote Earth science literacy and raise awareness of the role of women in science.
