Abstract

[eng] Blue Shadow is an audiovisual project of poetic and autobiographical nature that explores the absence and conflict of a broken sibling relationship. Through images of a family home in the midst of a move, the piece reflects on memory and the emotional void left by absence itself, with a documentary search to process this feeling. Blue, as a recurring symbol throughout the work, is represented as that intangible shadow that persists in the author’s memory. The project uses essay film as its main language, allowing for an emotional narration through personal images and altered personal archives. The blue stain is the visual metaphor of absence, and stop-motion animates this stain to bring it to life like erased or distorted memories. Intimate writing is integrated to build the narrative voice that complements the visual aesthetic. Inspired by references from autobiographical and essay cinema, the work is conceived as a personal search to understand and confront the silence and emotional distance of a family member. The piece offers an open space for the viewer to also construct their own interpretation of absence and memories. Link to the video: https://youtu.be/BPSJcmKg4Q0
