dc.description.abstract[en] While the phenomenon of gravitational waves is an area of research that already has the attention of the general public, the theory of general relativity in which they are framed contains many mathematical intricacies that can be a barrier for the uninitiated. In this work we discuss the necessary ingredients to take the reader with a basic notion of differentiable manifolds and tensor calculus all the way to the equations that explain how the detection with LIGO was achieved, together with the appropriate indications for the most curious to expand their knowledge on the subjects we present.ca
