[spa] En esta tesis se analizan algunas de las características climatológicas de la precipitación diaria en Puerto Rico, tales como la frecuencia o probabilidad, la intensidad, la concentración, la persistencia y los periodos lluviosos y secos. Para este estudio se ha utilizado los registros pluviométricos diarios de 16 estaciones meteorológicas del conjunto del área de estudio en el periodo comprendido entre 1961 y 2000. Los resultados de los cálculos, destacan, principalmente, las diferencias entre los lugares de mayor y menor elevación del territorio, y en menor medida, entre el este y el oeste del área de estudio. La gran mayoría de los análisis de la precipitación diaria, con la excepción de la concentración, están significativamente correlacionados con la altitud, y además varios de los análisis están inversamente correlacionados con la longitud, como la frecuencia, la persistencia y los periodos lluviosos. Finalmente, sólo en el análisis de la concentración de la precipitación se evidencia una relación inversa respecto a la latitud del territorio.
[eng] n this thesis analyzes some of the climatological characteristics of the daily precipitation over Puerto Rico, as the frequency or probabilities, intensity, concentration, persistence and wet and dry periods. For this studies have been utilized daily rain registers of 16 meteorological stations of Puerto Rico over the period 1961-2000. The most notably of the results of the calculations are the differences between the areas of high and low elevation, and a lesser extent, the differences between the eastern and western regions. The great majority of the analyses of the daily precipitation are significantly correlated with the elevation, with the exception of the concentration, and also several of them are inversely correlated with the longitude, as the frequency, persistence and wet periods. Finally, only the concentration of the precipitation analysis is evident an inverse relationship with the latitude.
