The idea of doing my research assignment about La nau by Josep Maria Benet i
Jornet took advantage of the current agreement between the Víctor Balaguer
Museum Library (BMVB) and the Manuel de Cabanyes Institute. My supervisor
shared with me an original typescript, a first edition and various correspondence
that Molas and Benet exchanged. All this material is in the archive Joaquim Molas
entrusted to the library. Therefore, this work focuses on the play La Nau and has
the following three objectives: 1) contextualize the work and the author in his time;
2) describe the process that goes from the writing of the work to its publication;
3) interpret this process in the literary context of those years.
The work itself focuses on the period that goes from 1969, the date of completion of the work, to 1977, the date of publication of the work in Catalan. The Spanish and French translations from 1973 and 1974, respectively, are excluded.
After analyzing all the material, we have worked through a series of stages in the creative and writing process. These stages are: previous notes, envelops, first draft, handwritten document, typewritten document, revised typescript, final publication text.
