Abstract

[spa] En este artículo se ponen en [eng] This essay questions both the authorship (Joan Dessi) and the dating (1599), which had traditionally been accepted, of the panet of la Verge dels Procuradors, work preserved in the Town Hali of Tortosa. This is done through three main lines. First, the stylistic comparison with other attributed or documented works by the Dessi family. Second, the study of the íconographic resemblance of this panel wich the representations of the Baixada de la Cinta, since, according to the author, this subject didn't appear before the l 71i century. Finally, the analysis of the "ethical content" of the painting, which ought to be related to the revolutionary and counter-revolutionary deeds of 1640.
