[spa] ¿Qué es lo que aporta la fotografía a las técnicas de investigación etnográfica y al análisis antropológico? Para dar respuesta a esta pregunta voy a proponer que, en la investigación antropológica, la fotografía es a la vez instrumento y objeto. Tomando como ejemplo el trabajo de campo entre los indígenas Pumé (Venezuela) daré cuenta de este doble interés que los instrumentos visuales, en este caso la fotografía, tienen para la investigación antropológica A partir de la reflexión sobre la construcción etnográfica se presentarán los diferentes usos de la fotografía en la investigación antropológica. Usos diversos que se han ido consolidando a partir del empleo de la fotografía por diferentes antropólogos, en varios momentos de la disciplina.
[eng] What is the contribution of photography to ethnographic research techniques and to anthropological analysis? To answer this question, I suggest that in anthropological research, photography is at the same time both instrument and object. Using my field research among the Pumé (an indigenous people in Venezuela) as an example, I account for this dual interest that visual media -photography, in this case- have for anthropology, highlighting the ways in which current uses of photography in ethnographic research have been shaped by the past uses which different anthropologists have made of it at various points in the history of the discipline.
