Contacto lingüístico en la novela Caramelo or Puro cuento de Sandra Cisneros y su traducción al español

Abstract

[spa] Este trabajo pretende realizar un estudio sobre la convivencia de inglés y español en la literatura chicana, centrándose específicamente en cómo se manifiesta este fenómeno en la novela Caramelo, o Puro Cuento de la autora chicana Sandra Cisneros y su traducción al español realizada por Liliana Valenzuela. El texto original está escrito en inglés, aunque hay una notable presencia del español que se consigue a través de diversas técnicas; en congruencia con esta idea de reflejar el contacto lingüístico, la traducción al español incorpora el inglés también de varias maneras. El objetivo es identificar y analizar cómo las dos versiones de la novela crean un ambiente bilingüe, y para ello se examinarán y compararán las técnicas empleadas por la autora y la traductora junto con ejemplos concretos extraídos de los textos.

[eng] This paper is an attempt to conduct a study on the coexistence of Spanish and English in Chicana literature, specifically focusing on how this phenomenon manifests in the novel Caramelo or Puro Cuento by Chicana author Sandra Cisneros and its Spanish translation done by Liliana Valenzuela. The original text is written in English though there is a notable presence of Spanish achieved through diverse techniques; in congruence with this idea of reflecting language contact, the Spanish translation incorporates English in various ways. The objective is to identify and analyze how the two versions of the novel create a bilingual atmosphere and to do so, techniques employed by the author and translator will be examined and compared together with specific examples pulled from the texts.
