[eng]This study examines the western portal of the Basilica of San Vicente in Ávila as an expression of Burgundian influence on twelfth-century Castilian Romanesque architecture. The research begins with a critical reassessment of the figure of Master Fruchel, an architect documented in Ávila during this period. His association with the basilica has traditionally been based on stylistic criteria and a chain of attributions rather than on direct documentary evidence. The central hypothesis of this study proposes that the Burgundian influence visible in the western portal cannot be attributed solely to the intervention of a single master builder; rather, it should be understood within a broader cultural and artistic context linked to the circulation of models, craftsmen, and workshops within twelfth-century Castilian Romanesque art. The study combines a formal, stylistic and iconographic analysis of the portal with a systematic comparison of key Burgundian monuments and other contemporary buildings in the region, such as Ávila Cathedral.
