[spa] Este artículo describe las características acústicas del sonido [s] en las ciudades de Medellín y Apartadó, de la región de Antioquia, y explora la hipótesis de que la realización de /s/ sirva para diferenciar los dialectos de las dos zonas. El estudio se basa en el análisis de 943 eses, producidas por un total de 32 informantes. Se consideraron los siguientes parámetros fonéticos: la frecuencia del centro de gravedad, el pico espectral, la desviación estándar del espectro, el coeficiente de asimetría, el coeficiente de curtosis, los pasos por cero y el ruido relativo. Los resultados sugieren que, en posición de ataque, la [s] es más sibilante en el municipio de Medellín que en Apartadó y en cuanto al punto de articulación es más apical en el primero y más dentalizado en el segundo. La posición de coda no permite diferenciar entre municipios.
[eng] his paper describes the acoustic characteristics of sound [s] in the cities of: Medellín and Apartadó and explores the hypothesis that the articulation of /s/ will serve to distinguish between the dialects spoken in these two areas. The study analizes 943 [s] produced by a total amount of 32 speakers. The following parameters were considered in the analysis: Center of gravity, spectral peak, standard deviation of the spectrum, skewness, kurtosis, zero crossings and harmonic-noise ratio. Results suggest that: in syllable onset [s] is more apical in Medellín and more dentalised in Apartadó. Also, Medellín’s onset [s] is more sibilant. In coda position, there is no difference between the two dialects.
