Resum
In the current work, three relevant new ammonite finds from the Maestrat Basin are reported and analyzed froma biostratigraphical point of view. Additionally, another important ammonite, originally published in the late1950th, is reviewed. The relevance of these four specimens lies in the fact that they come from stratigraphicintervals in the Maestrat Basin where ammonites are exceptionally rare. The purpose of this study was to analyzethese ammonites from the latest Barremian-Aptian interval from a biostratigraphic perspective, with the goal ofaccurately determining the age of the stratigraphic intervals. The analysis of these ammonites has confirmed theage of previously defined transgressive-regressive sequences within the Maestrat Basin and led to the revision ofsome of these age assignments. To enhance the correlation potential of the Maestrat Basin within a broader context, its sedimentary and ammonite records have been compared with one European basin and one North African basin. This more precise ammonite-based age calibration significantly advances the chronostratigraphic understanding ofsequence stratigraphy in the Maestrat Basin, establishing it as one of the best age-calibrated basins of the Tethys. Thus, the Maestrat Basin serves as a key reference point for correlating other Tethyan basins within this timeinterval.
