Antigüedades y nación: Prácticas del coleccionismo, agencia intelectual y sociabilidades científicas. Historias cruzadas desde la región andina (1890-1920)

Abstract

[spa] Esta investigación analiza el proceso de construcción de un saber especializado sobre el pasado y sus objetos, realizado por intelectuales-coleccionistas andinos, entre 1890 y 1920. En este contexto, las antigüedades, en particular las indígenas, fueron vestigios valorados en múltiples dimensiones, desde la transacción diplomática, el credo hispánico, el discurso de la arqueología transatlántica, las sociabilidades intelectuales y el museo nacional. A partir de estas coordenadas, cruzaremos distintas experiencias locales y sus conexiones con lo nacional y lo global, que arrancan con la conmemoración del “descubrimiento” de América en 1892 y se extienden hacia las primeras décadas del siglo XX, con el asentamiento de academias, sociedades e institutos de historia y antigüedades. En suma, nos interesa seguir ciertas prácticas del coleccionismo y sus proyecciones públicas a partir de las cuales se reconocieron estos objetos como fuentes “originarias” de la nación. Este discurso fue erigido, exhibido y negociado y formó parte de la configuración de un imaginario nacional material en la región andina.

[eng] This investigation analyzes the process of construction of an specialized knowledge about the past and its objects, which is done by Andean intellectuals/collectors between 1890 and 1920. In this context, the antiques, in particular the indigenous ones, were vestiges valued in multiple dimensions: from the diplomatic transaction, the Hispanic creed, the transatlantic archaeological discourse, the intellectual sociability and the national museum. From this coordinates we will cross different local experiences and its connections with the national and the global, that starts with the commemoration of the "discovering" of America in 1892, and it extends towards the firsts decades of the 20th century with the establishment of academies, societies and institutes of history and antiques. In summary, we are interested in following certain practices of collectibles and its public projections, from which these objects were recognized as "original" sources of the nation. This discourse was erected, exhibited and negotiated, in addition it was part of the configuration of the national imaginary material in the Andean region.
