Radical Republicanism. Democracy, Property and Rights(Berghahn Books, 2022-06-01) Guerrero Martín, David; Laín Escandell, Bru; Popp-Madsen, BenjaminOver the last two decades republican thought has attracted a growing interest from political, moral and legal scholars. These contemporary theoretical syntheses of ‘neo-republican’ thought have been closely related to intellectual history and the idea of recovering an overshadowed tradition of political thought. In this vein, a classical set of historical moments and places (e.g., ancient Rome, renaissance Italy, civil-war England or revolutionary America among others) and specific political practices within those contexts appear to be the main source of what republicanism meant – and what it could mean todayArticle
The struggles against gender violence in Spanish universities and how they contributed to changing legislation(Zgodovinsko društvo za južno Primorsko, Koper, 2024-10-18) Soler Gallart, Marta; Joanpere Foraster, MarThis article examines the transformation process of Spanish universities in the prevention and action against sexual harassment, drawing on the lessons learned from the #MeToo University Movement. Three pivotal aspects are explored: Spain’s pioneering contributions, particularly in co-creation and global impact; the successful inclusion of groundbreaking concepts into legislation and ethical codes; and the societal impact towards ending sexual harassment. Despite the significant social progress, Spain faces criticism from those unwilling to break the silence around harassment, underscoring the ongoing need for change in academia.- ArticleCare as a response to sexual and gender-related violence in Catalan universities: policy and institutional challenges(Taylor & Francis, 2025-06-10) Cagliero, Sara; Biglia, Bárbara; Bonet-Martí, JordiFeminist research and mass demonstrations on campuses have proven that Higher Education Institutions are not violence-free spaces. In Catalonia, the legal obligations and institutional discomfort generated by some specific cases have forced Higher Education Institutions to take measures. How much support do these measures provide for survivors? Why have Higher Education Institutions followed the same path for years? Is it possible to imagine another way of making policies? This article aims to offer a critical feminist analysis of the development of Higher Education Institutions’ policies to combat sexual and gender-related violence implemented in Catalonia, as well as evaluating the possibility of moving from a punitivist, individualist approach to a new, radically more effective model that prioritizes care for survivors
