How Podcast Media Content Marketing Shapes Consumer. Brand Perception and Favorability(2024) Yin, Lijun; Gil Lafuente, JaimeWith the rise of digital media, podcasts have emerged as a portable, on-the-go medium that offers a brand-new channel of communication. The commercial value of podcasts has attracted widespread attention in the industry, with many brands still in the observation and evaluation stage, not yet ready to invest or take action. This study will investigate the relationship between consumers brand perception, consumers brand favorability, and the Podcast Media Content Marketing (PMCM). By establishing a framework to describe the pathway of PMCM on consumer brand perception and favorability, this aims to provide brand owners and podcast content host with new perspectives and strategies.Treball de fi de màster
Assessment of the bilateral trade potential between China and the European Union(2024) Ouyang, Jiayu; Clavería González, ÓscarThis study uses an extended gravity model to analyze the determinants of bilateral trade flows between China and the EU from 2002 to 2022. The results show that trade flows between China and the EU are mainly affected by economic size, adjusted geographical distance, trade dependence and real effective exchange rate. Specifically, both China's per capital GDP and the EU countries' per capital GDP have a significant positive impact on bilateral trade flows, highlighting the role of economic growth in promoting trade volume. The distance variable, which combines geographical distance and an adjusted distance variable based on crude oil prices, has a significant negative impact on trade flows, reflecting the constraints of transportation costs and geographical distance on international trade.Treball de fi de màster
The interplay between accounting quality and credit default risk for banks(2024) Oliveira, Henrique Silverio Siqueira de; Alaminos Aguilera, DavidI explored the relationship between accounting quality and credit default risk for banks in the Eurozone. I set a model of banks in Orbis from 2015 to 2023. I aimed to broaden the literature on the banking sector since it has been largely neglected because of its particular balance sheet and financial measures. In agreement with previous findings, the Wilcoxon test revealed that the IFRS 9 mandatory adoption decreases the credit default risk for banks in the Eurozone. The results are accurate after robustness checks However, this study is limited to the Eurozone. Further, since IFRS was often adopted along with concurrent institutional reforms, it is difficult to identify the real effects of IFRS. To my knowledge, it is the first study that analyzes the relationship between accounting quality and credit default risk for banks from an accounting perspective in the Eurozone since previous scholars focused on capital-market impacts. This study contributes to developing a promising line of research in accounting and finance. Further, another implication would be to incentivize policymakers to focus on the improvement of institutional settings rather than the harmonization of accounting standards.

Patterns of spatial clustering of Spanish. Start-ups and the formation of entrepreneurship in the manufacturing sector(2023) Li, Xinmeng; Romaní Fernández, Javier, 1969-Entrepreneurship is spatially unequally distributed in Spain and manufacturing entry rates have not been high in the last three years. Using data from the Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE) and SABI databases, this study explores the factors that influence manufacturing entrepreneurship clusters in the Spanish provinces by highlighting the importance of industrial localization and urbanization factors. At the industry level, our results support the existence of a significant Marshallian effect in the manufacturing sector, as more manufacturing entrepreneurship is likely to occur where there is a concentration of upstream firms and a strong labor market. In the case of urbanized economies, population size is positively related to manufacturing entrepreneurship, while population density is negatively related to it. Based on Marshallian theory, our paper's analysis of the spatial clustering of start-ups in the Spanish manufacturing sector can be useful to local and national policy makers planning to encourage entrepreneurship.Treball de fi de màster

Dropshiping: revisión de la literatura y situación en España(2023) Longaron Sorigué, Roger; Valls Pasola, JaumeOften, formulas are sought to help entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have a business model that allows them to operate and expand globally at a low cost. Scalability and internationalization of the business model have become a general necessity for entrepreneurs and SMEs due to the limited size and demand of domestic markets. Therefore, entrepreneurs and companies must internationalize their operations to grow and develop. E-commerce-based businesses are a suitable option to achieve this and expand the business internationally; however, entrepreneurs and companies face the challenge of shipping their goods to foreign countries and the difficulties of delivering them to the end customer. This work aims to analyze and delve deeper into Dropshipping to shed light on its contribution in the context of Spanish e-commerce and assess its economic dimension. It also seeks to establish its theoretical framework and identify the companies that comprise it. Dropshipping allows entrepreneurs and SMEs to expand their product range without acquiring stocks, incurring the costs of storing such items, managing inventory, or handling delivery logistics—the well-known "last-mile delivery." Dropshipping offers various delivery options, such as discreet or customized packaging, including invoices and receipts from the company that hired the service. Our study, focused on Dropshipping, aims to describe the phenomenon, assess its scale in Spain, establish its theoretical models, highlighting its advantages and disadvantages, and propose solutions to some of its issues, such as those generated by information asymmetry presented in agency theory. We propose an efficient solution to this problem based on Blockchain technology and the use of smart contracts, as well as rapid international expansion mechanisms through growth hacking techniques.Treball de fi de màster
A Comparative analysis on the Impact of Celebrity Endorsement on consumer purchase intentions of Fashion brands in India and Spain(2021) Patel, Karan; Huertas García, RubénIn 20th century, there has been a change in customer’s attitude towards lifestyle. Consumers give a lot of importance to brands. This is because consumers have become more selective and are much more aware about the products, thanks to the noise created by certain advertisement medium such as radio, newspaper, magazines, hoardings and websites. To attain a competitive edge, marketers use celebrity endorsement as an effective marketing strategy in order to fit their products in consumer’s mind. The central aim of this research article is to understand certain parameters of celebrity endorsement that affect the consumer’s purchase intension in the fashion industry. In order to compare the influence of cultural differences, the study focuses on two countries: India and Spain. The Indian sample consists of 249 respondents, while Spanish sample consists of 237 respondents. An online questionnaire was circulated containing two sections. The response was collected and processed with a statistical tool called STATA 16.1 using simultaneous equation (OLS). The results show a clear cultural influence on these two countries with respect to celebrity endorsement in fashion industry. The contributions of this research will help marketers to frame appropriate theory using celebrity endorsements, which will be fruitful for the brand on long-term basis.Treball de fi de màster
The moderating role of innovation capability on the relationship between slack and firm performance(2022) Zhang, Mengmeng; Argilés Bosch, Josep M.The impact of organizational slack on firm growth always attracts a great academic concern. however, the investigation about the external factor that will affect the above-mentioned relationship can be barely found. This study undertakes an empirical analysis with regards to the moderating effect of innovation capability on the relationship between organizational slack and future firm growth. We applied a sample of 280 firms in Europe and 2520 years observation from 2011-2019. The result from fixed-effect model shows that unabsorbed slack positively affects future firm growth, also innovation capability can positively moderate the relationship between unabsorbed slack and firm growth. However, we didn’t find any evidence to support our same hypothesis in terms of absorbed slack. Additionally, we find that PP&E investment will promote the firm growth while the firm size has negative effect on firm growth.Treball de fi de màster
Disentangling the relationship between R&D internationalization and corporate’s innovation performance – evidence from Chinese MNEs(2022) Yu, Miao; Miravitlles Matamoros, PalomaDevelopment of the global economy makes a deeper level of interaction between the domestic and international markets in recent years. For this reason, more and more firms choose to internationalize part of their value chain in foreign countries, including research and development (R&D) activities. This paper aims to investigate the impact of R&D internationalization of Chinese MNEs on their corporate’s innovation performance in terms of intensity and diversity. Using data of the Top 100 MNEs from China in 2021, I perform an Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression to test the model. The results indicate that there is a U-shaped relationship between the intensity of R&D internationalization and firm’s innovation performance and an inverted U-shaped relationship for the diversity of R&D internationalization. This paper expands the literature on innovation outcomes of R&D internationalization in the context of emerging economies and also provides guideline for those managers in MNEs to realize the threshold in the process of R&D internationalization to maximize their benefits.Treball de fi de màster

The relationship between environmental, social and governance pillars and financial performance in the era of financial technology and Covid-19. The case of the banking industry(2022) Chiu, Kuan-Ling; Hernández Vivanco, Alfonso AntonioWe analyse the relationship between environmental, social and governance (ESG) pillars of sustainability and financial performance (FP) in the banking industry through evaluating profitability and market value. The indicator for profitability is return on assets (ROA) and for market value is Tobin’s Q. Furthermore, we examine two moderating effects to analyse (i) if the financial technology (Fintech) firms outperform traditional banks by participating in ESG activities, and (ii) the change of these relationships before and after the Covid-19 outbreak. The sample contains 697 firms, which includes banking and investment banking services in EU, US and Asia, and Fintech firms identified from the KBW and Nasdaq Fintech (KFTX) Indices and NASDAQ Insurance Index (IXIS) over a 4-year period (2017-2020). The analysis was performed using feasible generalised least square (FGLS). Our results show that depending on the measure of ESG pillar, a positive relationship between ESG performance and FP. Specifically, social scores have positive impact on the profitability whilst environmental scores have positive impact on the market value. Moreover, we find that the positive relationship between ESG and FP is stronger in Fintech firms. Similarly, the pandemic enhanced the positive influence of environmental scores on market value. However, the influence of social scores on market value turns into negative after pandemic. We also find that by involving in ESG activities Fintech firms can increase more market value than traditional banks, although this method may negatively affect their profitability after pandemic. We contribute to the sustainability literature in the financial industry. For academic implication, it is necessary to evaluate sustainability by three pillars rather than as a single construct unifying the three different pillars; for investor and practitioners, ESG is relevant to be consider as the non-financial indicators to assess the FP. In the future, we hope researchers could improve the limitation of the availability of post-pandemic data in this study.Treball de fi de màster

Coworking Spaces and Entrepreneurship : Literature review and research agenda(2020) Saka, Tugce-Nuray; Hormiga Pérez, EstherWith the growth of the sharing economy, coworking became a phenomenon of global interest. As the number of coworking spaces are increasing in world’s leading metropoles, the new smart look of cities also reflects on the changing image of working practices. Acknowledging the concurrently trending literature about the topic, the aim of this research is twofold: first, to classify the related themes and theories that explore the contingencies of coworking spaces and coworking through a systematic literature review and second, to propose a research agenda about the subject in order to highlight directions for future research. The methodology covers a bibliometric literature analysis of 51 existing articles from academic journals. This process is performed on the extracted data of contingencies, underpinning theories, and methodological details between the constructs from the collected articles based on coworking and entrepreneurship. The research contributes to the literature by developing a model that includes the adoption of basic theories from field of entrepreneurship, after establishing a comprehensive review of dominant analogies suggested so far. The findings of this research provide an agenda for future studies in terms of methodology, context and theoretical framework. Practical implications obtained from this study will help to build connections to reframe alternative transitions from sharing economy and to tackle the disruptive social and economic dimensions of this crisis, with an optimistic entrepreneurial focus.Treball de fi de màster

Big data and Sentiment Analysis considering reviews from e-commerce platforms to predict consumer behavior(2020) Pons-Muñoz de Morales, Sergi; Romaní Fernández, Javier, 1969-; Gil Lafuente, JaimeNowadays and since the last two decades, digital data is generated on a massive scale, this phenomenon is known as Big Data (BD). This phenomenon supposes a change in the way of managing and drawing conclusions from data. Moreover, techniques and methods used in artificial intelligence shape new ways of analysis considering BD. Sentiment Analysis (SA) or Opinion Mining (OM) is a topic widely studied for the last few years due to its potential in extracting value from data. However, it is a topic that has been more explored in the fields of engineering or linguistics and not so much in business and marketing fields. For this reason, the aim of this study is to provide a reachable guide that includes the main BD concepts and technologies to those who do not come from a technical field such as Marketing directors. This essay is articulated in two parts. Firstly, it is described the BD ecosystem and the technologies involved. Secondly, it is conducted a systematic literature review in which articles related with the field of SA are analysed. The contribution of this study is a summarization and a brief description of the main technologies behind BD, as well as the techniques and procedures currently involved in SA.Treball de fi de màster
Impact of ISO 9001 and TPM Integration(2020) Navia Núñez, Juan Felipe; Bernardo Vilamitjana, MercèDuring the recent years, Integrated Management System (IMS) has gained notable importance by researchers and practitioners due to the benefits of this practice. Thus, the aim of this research is to present and implement a model to integrate Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and three different function-specific management system standards, namely ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015. The methodology used is a content analysis based on a literature review that allowed identifying the common elements to propose the TPM ISO model and a case of study is developed to validate the proposal. Findings show a set of four phases as a framework to help organizations to deal with integration challenges. The originality of this investigation is threefold: the proposed TPM ISO model, the introduction of environmental management in TPM and its practical application with the case study.
